Soul Gift is for adults
You must be 18 or older to use Soul Gift. Not because of anything unkind or unseemly, there is none of that here, but because of what you are trusted to do: hold a real person's voice, and speak for what they would have wanted.
To keep a loved one who has passed, you affirm that you are close enough to them, and carry enough of the family's blessing, to do this in their honor. That is a real promise, made on behalf of someone who can no longer speak for themselves. It belongs to an adult who can stand behind it.
Why eighteen
Three quiet reasons, and really the same reason: care.
- Consent is yours to give. The laws that protect a person's voice and likeness place that trust with their family and next of kin. When you keep a loved one here, you affirm you are one of those people, and that affirmation should come from an adult.
- It is a real agreement. Soul Gift is a keepsake you choose, and it is an understanding between grown people about something that matters.
- Some memories ask for steady hands. Love and loss are tender ground. We would rather meet them with someone old enough to have walked a little of it.
What that means in the app
In practice, it shows up in a few small, steady ways.
- At the door, you affirm you are 18 or older before you sign in.
- Keeping a loved one who has passed asks you to attest your relationship to them and your standing to do this, in your own words, and we keep that on record.
- Nothing here is made for children, and no living child is ever a subject.
